DISCOUNTED TICKETS TO LGBT RACE FANS TO ATTEND THE NASCAR KOBALT TOOLS 500 ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2010
International Raceway (PIR) has partnered with Queer4Gears.com to offer special discounted tickets to their Lesbian and Gay race fans to attend the NASCAR Kobalt Tools 500 on Sunday, November 14, 2010. With this special discount, admission for the race starts at $25.00. Additional information about the promotion is available at: www.PhoenixRaceway.com/LGBT The track has been working on this promotion with Queer4Gears.com, a website devoted to gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and trans-gendered, also collectively known as LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender) NASCAR fans. PIR recognizes that they have a very diverse fan base and they want to reach out to all of them. While covering the Subway Fresh Fit 500 in April, Queer4Gears.com founder, Michael Myers began conversations with Phoenix International Raceway officials. To his knowledge, Myers said that this will be the first time that any NASCAR sanctioned facility has reached out to fans in the L.G.B.T. community. "Just a small push like including the L.G.B.T. community on the official web site of Phoenix International Raceway is a step in the right direction for uniting the different stereotypes that surround the racetracks on a weekly basis" said Queer4Gears.com founder Michael Myers. "I applaud Phoenix International Raceway for what they are trying to do and it definitely will speak volumes towards the gay race fans. It is a big first step." Myers went onto say, "I started Queers4Gears as a resource for the gay and lesbian fans that already love NASCAR. However, another goal is to bring new fans to the sport. I was excited to work with the folks at Phoenix International Raceway on a promotion for L.G.B.T. fans. The discounted tickets are an incentive to flock new race fans to this great race track without breaking the bank. Plus, the Kobalt Tools 500 is included in the chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship; it's the second to last race of the year, so without a doubt it's going to be an incredible race." Tickets in turn one and tour four for the 37th race on the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series tour begin at $25.00 and are available online along with additional input on the program at phoenixraceway.com/LGBT. GAY TEEN SEEKS TO SUE SCHOOL DISTRICT AFTER SCHOOL FAILS TO INTERVINE Surprise, Arizona – 15-year-old Caleb Laieski attending Willow Canyon High School says incidents of harassment and hate speech has been mostly ignored by teachers and administration, also saying that bullying and death threats over his sexuality have led him to take action against the district. The Dysart School District claims that they will not allow discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, or age yet excluding sexual orientation and gender identity. Mr. Laieski responded "If they are so serious on this matter, without hesitation sexual orientation and gender identity should be protected in their policy." Mr. Laieski also continued saying "The handbook inquires that first offense of hate speech is a 2-3 day suspension and eligibility for a police report to be filed, and they never enforce that. Additionally, their handbook claims that their staff, both teachers and administrators, are required to intervene, in which they often fail to do." Mr. Laieski has endured a relentless amount of hate speech including "fag, homo, queer" following the phrase "that's so gay" in replacement of the word stupid. He has also faced death threats by students both on and off campus. He's been harassed while walking home, in public, at school and even over the phone. In result, Mr. Laieski has founded Gays and Lesbians United Against Discrimination (GLUAD) fighting discrimination against the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community as a whole, primarily focusing on LGBT youth and will also continue pursuing a law suit against the Dysart Unified School District. > Full Story.
